Milk and Cookies…

November 27, 2007

Well in this case, just Milk. Tomorrow I take little monkey back to see his geneticist for his monthly checkin and blood draw. Tomorrow we are also going to be getting some new milk for him to try. This kind will have 3 flavors: (not that flavors seemed to matter before however) Chocolate, Orange, and UnFlavored. Is that considered a flavor??  UnFlavored? I mean it says right there that it has no flavor…so how could it be a flavor? Okay sorry for the sidetrack. Along with getting the new milk, he will also most likely have to take a calorie supplement and a tyrosine supplement. Hopefully all of this goes well for the little guy. Little monkey is only 20 months old, so there is no negotiations for drinking his milk.

On another note about milk…We left last week for Thanksgiving weekend. There was a gallon of milk in the fridge that didn’t have much left, maybe a glass full.  Little monkey’s Dad came back since he had to work during the weekend. You would think (well at least I) that the one last glass of milk would be used up. Fast forward to Monday. I go to get a glass of milk to have with our snack last night. It was still the gallon with the one remaining glass. Which would have been great, if it hadn’t gone bad over the weekend. And what’s more is that little monkey’s Dad knew it went bad and didn’t throw it out!!!!  Yuck!

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

November 15, 2007

Go ahead…sing along…you know you want to! So you maybe you’ve already figured it out…yes we did put up the Christmas tree. We didn’t put it up until Sunday though, so at least I was able to stall one more day! We did go furniture shopping Saturday night for a new table. And after visiting like three furniture stores, we ended up at Target and decided on a table there! Go figure. It was on sale, which was good, but it was out of stock. At the three closest Targets to our house. So we got a raincheck that allows us to pay the sale price until December 26th. Now we just have to wait for Target to get one in stock, and bring it home. Then we will be moving the old table to……..the garage I guess. We’re going to hold onto it for my sister-in-law who would like to have it for her new apartment. She’s moving in January and has only bedroom furniture. So this will go to good use. It’s actually in good shape, but could use a new painting and recovering of some of the chairs. But if you have nothing….it will definately work! So hopefully soon we’ll get the new table in. Then we will be trying to figure out a way to remove/move/redesign our cabinets that are in our dining room. We want to make a bench seat for the new table. We are only buying 4 chairs for it…but with the leaf in, we could easily seat 6. I just don’t want extra big chair hanging out and we figured a bench seat with storage inside would be nice. So that will be the next item on the list of to dos.

That list of to dos seems to be getting longer and longer. Let’s take a look:

Paint little monkey’s room.

Paint living/dining/kitchen area.

Replace carpet with tile in all rooms, except put new carpet in the bedrooms.

Build deck for the above-ground pool.

Organize the office.

And of course this is just a list of to dos for the house….not including stuff like…Christmas Shopping……sewing…..gift making…..regular old cleaning…..the list could go on and on!!!   :)

Christmas Time.

November 10, 2007

So we are now into the second week of November and already little monkey’s Dad has asked multiple times to put up the Christmas decorations. Now, the rule around here has been no Christmas decorations until at least after Thanksgiving dinner. I think I have lost the battle though. We found out that some of our friends have already put up their Christmas trees, so that just adds to little monkey’s Dad’s wanting to put up our tree too. He’s already told me that if we don’t end up going out for dinner, or having people over to our house for dinner tomorrow night (which is looking more and more like it will not be happening) that he will be putting up the Christmas tree. Oh my! I don’t know what on earth we are going to do about this one. You see every year since we’ve been married (so the past 3 Christmas’) he HAD to have a REAL tree. Last year I convinced him that we should get a fake tree during the after Christmas sales. My agruement had to do with the fact that we would have a very mobile child this Christmas. He agreed and I bought a fake tree at Target during the 75% off sale after Christmas. So it looks like by the end of Saturday night, we will have a Christmas tree set up in our house.

Maybe I will be able to distract little monkey’s wonderful Dad from putting up the Christmas tree by going shopping to find a new dining room table. This is a purchase that we have been thinking about, but haven’t really looked into much. Now time is just about of the essence, so it’s time to get serious. We want to get a rectangular table with extra leaves. We also are planning to rip out some cabinets that are currently in the dining room. We want to change those cabinets into a bench seat with hidden storage inside. This project is now a bigger priority since we are hosting Christmas at our house this year and we don’t have enough seats anymore (thanks to a little kid I babysit….don’t ask…you don’t want to know!). So maybe, just maybe, we can go look for a new table and chairs tomorrow night-if we don’t end up having dinner plans. Honestly of all the options-1.Christmas Tree 2. Dinner with new friends 3. New table and chairs shopping- I would LOVE for tomorrow night’s plans to be Dinner with new friends. I guess we’ll see what happens….but I’m honestly quite afraid that it will involve a trip to the attic to get the Christmas tree!

Eating and Drinking….why is it so hard?

November 3, 2007

Little monkey has a medical condition that requires him to be on a special diet. He also must drink at least 24oz of his special formula everyday. The problem here is that he doesn’t like to drink his special milk. And who can really blame him. Would you want to drink the same thing EVERYDAY for your ENTIRE life? Sure he’s only 19 months old, so his life hasn’t been SO long yet, but it is all he knows. I’m sure it gets old. We’ve even tried to flavor it but he doesn’t care. The problem with this is that his milk contains all the needed nutrients that he isn’t getting elsewhere (since he can’t have meat or dairy among other things). And there is no real rationalization with a 19 month old. He just knows that he doesn’t want it no matter how hard we try. I hope each day that he will finish his milk, but this is a rare occurrence at our house. And being his parent, of course makes me responsible for his well being. It is hard to not take his eating and drinking personal. I know that he doesn’t do it intentional to make me upset/mad/frustrated/insert choice adjectives here, but it is still hard. One day I know he will be old enough to take care of his diet on his own and it will be much easier for him to understand the importance of drinking his milk. Until then, I will try to not take it personally and just do my best to take care of them.
