So after much discussion, I have joined the gym that Big Monkey goes to. He gets to go free because his job pays for it, so we’re only paying for me. Part of the deal for me getting the membership is that Big Monkey wants me to go at least three times a week. I am not exactly the workout type but I’m also not “in shape.” Well I suppose everyone is “in shape,” there are just many different shapes. I paid for six months in advance to make the monthly rate lower. Monday was my first day. Big Monkey and Little Monkey went along. They only have childcare during class times, so even if I don’t want to go to class, but I don’t have anyone to watch Little Monkey, that would be the time to go. Most days that time is 9a-10p, although there are a couple other times. Little Monkey cried when Big Monkey dropped him off but quickly decided to play with the other kids and watch some tv. I got my keychain membership card and had my picture taken for the computer. Meanwhile, the on duty guys from Big Monkey’s work came in for their workouts. They questioned Big Monkey’s idea in getting me a membership to the gym saying that I didn’t need to be at the gym, he just needed to feed me some food. The problem with that you see is that I eat pretty much whatever I want, when I want and still look like I do. So eating food is not an issue but being “in shape” is.
Monday-Day One- All I did was walk on the treadmill for 45min. I walked 2.54miles. Nothing really exciting but more than I would do on any other day. Sadly my legs did feel the workout during most of the rest of the day.
Tuesday-Day Two-I’m already 66% of the way to meeting the three days a week requirement set up by Big Monkey. This time Big Monkey and Little Monkey stayed home. I think the most they accomplished was getting Little Monkey to eat a little bit of breakfast. (I don’t want to hear about my slacking off!)
I only walked on the treadmill again today. I walked 2.68 miles in 50 minutes. Today an older man starting walking next to me about 30 minutes into my walk. He was quickly up to the speed I was going but it was like a leisurely stroll for him. Then I realized that I was almost double stepping his steps. He was quite tall and had really long legs; so he didn’t have to move them as fast to keep up with the same speed. Today I also realized that I need to create a playlist on my Ipod for the gym. When walking four miles an hour and hoping for fast upbeat songs, it is not fun to hear really slow songs or of course my favorite…any of Little Monkey’s music!!
Tomorrow will be an off day from the gym since Big Monkey is going to work, unless we wake up early and are motivated enough to get there for the 9am class. The on duty guys might just be there then too.
