Stimulus Checks from the Government

May 13, 2008

Yesterday I received a letter from the IRS, dated May 12th, letting me know that I should have received my stimulus check on May 9th. What a waste. Add up all the money it cost to send out the first letters (to remind you to file so you could get a stimulus check) and then this one to let me know I should have gotten my stimulus check already and we could have all received even more money to help stimulate the economy, or they could have “saved” the money since it is money we don’t have anyhow. I did in fact receive my stimulus direct deposit on May 9th. Currently it is sitting in the bank with no real plans on spending it (Sorry Mr. President). We have discussed a few options of what to do with it: 1. Leave it in the bank to pay ourselves back when we had to use money from our savings while Big Monkey was out on workman’s comp. 2. Pay off our 0% interest credit card, either in full or in part. 3. Use it to pay for parts of our vacations this summer.

I vote to leave it in the bank. With the other money we have coming in, I think we should be fine to pay for the vacations and our 0% interest credit card (before it goes up). Thankfully we received extra money from Big Monkey’s job because they did an audit and realized that some of the guys were underpaid for a year and a half. We also should be receiving a little over $1000 (hopefully more) from Aflac for Little Monkey’s trips to the ER and Big Monkey’s time on workman’s comp.

So do you have big plans to spend your economic stimulus check or do you plan to put it away for safe keeping in the bank?
