National Grandparents Day

September 7, 2008

Today, September 7th, 2008 is National Grandparents Day.

You should call your Grandparents…or send them an ecard if you didn’t already send a real card in the mail.

Did you even know there was such a thing as Grandparents Day? I do recall it from previous years but just for you, I have looked up some information. :)

The idea for National Grandparents Day started with Marian McQuade. She was hoping to encourage people to visit their grandparents and possible gain something from all the wisdom that older people carry. She also was trying to cut down on lonely people in nursing homes. So, if you don’t have grandparents anymore, or they aren’t close by, maybe you could visit a nursing home just to put a smile on someone’s face.

Grandparents Day even has its own website here. That can give you more information about the day as well as ideas for activities and books to read.

Little Monkey has made a gift for his Grandparents. Here is the work in progress as well as the finished project. We learned a few things and have a couple of better ideas for next time (Thanksgiving turkeys probably).
