Day of Doctors

March 31, 2009

Yesterday I spent the day visiting a couple of doctors.

I first had an appointment at my Periodontist. I alternate between seeing their office and seeing my regular dentist ever since I had oral surgery done at the periodontist’s office. I do not like going to the dentist or the periodontist. I usually have high anxiety about these visits. I also take my ipod with me to try and block out some of the sounds of the office (although to be honest, this doesn’t really work that great.). I have been seeing the same hygienist there for the past five years. Yesterday I got called back by a different hygienist. And she put me in a different chair. I was nervous. First, I don’t like being there in the first place. Second, I forgot my ipod so I didn’t have anything to “zone out” with. Third, they gave me to a new hygienist who did EVERYTHING differently from my old hygienist. I did not like it one bit. The new hygienist wasn’t that bad either…it’s just that I don’t like change and I wasn’t expecting it. Anxiety level was definitely up during the entire visit. I did fine and all is well. Of course she said I could floss better to help my gums tighten up and not be as puffy in some areas (but we already knew that!). I have to go back at the beginning of October, which I laughed at and so we scheduled for in September. Hopefully it will be right before the baby gets here. If not, I’ll be canceling that appointment!

After that appointment I had two hours to kill before going to the OB/GYN. I got a smoothie from Planet Smoothie and then went to a couple of stores. Nothing of any excitement to note. I didn’t buy anything! I also went to McDonald’s for lunch and worked on my BSF lesson while I was there. (I was trying to kill time…it wasn’t working too well.) I ended up at the OB/GYN’s office forty minutes before my appointment! (There was no good shopping close by to where I was.) I worked on my BSF lesson for a little bit more and then headed in for my appointment, still quite early.

When I signed in, I was informed that I had a balance on my account from my ER visit. The insurance company denied my claim because they said that they are not my primary insurance company. Umm..what?!?! They paid the hospital their money, but not my doctor. So I had to pay it and I will be calling the insurance company later today to straighten out the $150 bill. I waited around for my appointment and eventually got called back.

My doctor came in after a bit and was happy to see that I was doing much better than the last time I saw him. (The last time I saw this particular doctor, I was in the ER.) He was also happy to hear that the meds he gave me are working. He said that he would rather I didn’t take the meds but at least they are working since I need them to.  He was also happy to see that I had gained so weight. I guess this is good considering that when I was pregnant with Little Monkey I started out by losing 15 pounds from being so sick. They offered me the pentascreen blood test (would determine if the baby has Down’s). I took the paper and found out that I did do the test with Little Monkey. I asked the doctor if they would do anything differently knowing the outcome of that test. He said no that it is an optional test and I can take it if I want or not. He said some people choose to have an abortion after finding out the test was positive. I said that we would not be doing that so he said it would just let us know ahead of time what we might be dealing with. We are still thinking about whether or not we’ll do it.

I also got to hear the baby’s heartbeat. When I was in the ER I had seen the heartbeat on the ultrasound but this was the first time to hear it. The baby was moving around a bit but the doctor did manage to find it, lose it and find it again. I asked him before we started if it would be okay if I recorded the heartbeat on my cell phone since Big Monkey couldn’t be there. (I felt odd asking but he said it was fine and that lots of people do that.) So I got to bring the heartbeat home to Big Monkey and Little Monkey. Everything is looking well for now and the doctor is happy with our progress. We are 13 weeks along as of today!

The Car Is Okay

March 28, 2009

for now….

At least that is what the guy said at the new auto shop we are trying out. We used to go to Aamco and had great folks there that we trusted. Sadly, the owner of the shop suddenly stopped paying the guys who operated and worked at the shop, so they closed down. We were wondering what we would do to find another shop that we trust.

Big Monkey went in today and Little Monkey and I met him there. Big Monkey explained about the lights that came on in my car and that are now out. He also explained about the a/c issue and told them we would like to have whatever needs to be done based on the car’s mileage (like a tune up type thing). The shop called a bit later and let us know that the car was done. We were figuring that the bill would be a couple hundred dollars. The total was just shy of $50!

They fixed my a/c issue (a bolt that comes loose and causes the a/c to have issues knowing about hot or cold). It inside the dash but Big Monkey claims that now that he knows exactly what the issue is (the bolt) that he should be able to fix it in the future. They also told us that based on the mileage and the fact that everything looked good inside, they would not recommend any type of ‘tune up’. And since the lights are off for now, it seems like we’ll have to see if everything is okay with that. I’m hopeful that with them telling us about the ‘tune up’ part that they are honest folks (like the people at Aamco were) because otherwise they would have just done something and charged us some huge amount for work that didn’t really need to be done. They also let us know that we need an oil change. I felt like it had just been done…but when I looked at the sticker in my car, I was only one mile away from the mileage for needing an oil change! Guess we’ll look into that next week!

Proof Of Progress

March 27, 2009

We spent a good portion of yesterday working hard again on our stuff for the craft show. I think I was eager to work on it because everything was still out and in the way and it feels like our crazy goal might be attainable. I’m also hoping the more work we get done now, the less work we will have to do while we are at the beach next week.

After working for a bit yesterday, we cleaned up our room (Big Monkey’s one request for us having all the craft stuff in our master bedroom!). We lined up all the coffee cozies that we have and made a count.

Here is where we are:
83 to be ironed, pinned, sewn, trimmed, turned, ironed, pinned, sewn and have buttons put on
73 to be ironed, pinned, sewn and have buttons put on
2 to resew, then ironed, pinned, sewn and have buttons put on
30 to be trimmed, turned, ironed, pinned, sewn and have buttons put on
20 to have fabric cut for, ironed, pinned, sewn, trimmed, turned, ironed, pinned, sewn and have buttons put on (These are going to be cut from fabric that we are waiting to receive in the mail.)

While that list makes it seem like we haven’t gotten much done, I feel pretty good about it. It is nice to see progress and notice that we are getting somewhere. Today we are taking a break from working on our craft show stuff but we will likely pick it up again on Saturday (The next time that Big Monkey will be at work and therefore we can make a mess with our crafting stuff!).

Check Engine

March 26, 2009

Yesterday, after working very hard on crafting in the morning and during Little Monkey’s nap, we decided to take Little Monkey to Big Bounce. We hadn’t been in awhile, so I was sure he would enjoy it. We took two cars because we thought Amy might need to leave sooner than Little Monkey and I would. Driving out of our neighborhood I noticed that my Check Engine, VSC and Trac Off lights were all lit up on my dashboard. I turned off my car and turned it back on. Same thing. I called Big Monkey and he wanted me to go home right away. We pulled over and he had me look up what all the lights meant in my car book. There wasn’t much of an explanation, except that the Trac Off light was probably on because the VSC light was on. Big Monkey told me to take it to Advance Auto Parts and have them run their computer on it.

I sent Amy and Little Monkey on their way, hoping I would be meeting them shortly at Big Bounce. I headed over to Advance Auto Parts and explained my problem. They hooked my car right up to the computer and the only problem it showed was with the O2 sensor. It is either dirty and needs to be cleaned or needs to be replaced. I called Big Monkey and let him know. He asked me not to drive it too much but did say it would be fine to go to Big Bounce to meet Amy and Little Monkey.

I headed over there and found out that they were the only people playing there! How nice. Little Monkey got 45 minutes with the entire place to himself! He had a great time and Amy followed him around some and helped him play. He also did some playing on his own. While he played, we worked on our crafts some more. We had gotten about 50 coffee cozies done earlier in the day to the point where they needed to be turn inside out. We finished all of them while Little Monkey played. It was nice to get out of the house, let Little Monkey run out some excess energy and still get work done for the craft show! I think we will plan to go back to Big Bounce again in the afternoon since there seems to be no one there! When I got back in my car to drive home, NONE of the lights on my dashboard came on. Why can’t it be consistent?!

Friday we will see about taking my car in for a tune up or something. It also is having an issue with the air conditioning (NOT a good problem to have in Florida, in the summer, while pregnant!). Hopefully we can get all the issues figured out and it won’t cost us too much (Good thing we are getting a decent tax return! Looks like it will be going to work on the cars!).

Small Victories

March 25, 2009

Last night we worked on getting things cut out for our craft show. We now have all the “innards” for the mini gadget cozies, regular gadget cozies (actually finished the day before), and for 200 coffee cozies! Here is my cutting table after the 200 coffee cozy “innards” had been cut: (Along with a few “outer pieces”)

I think we made some great progress last night. Today we have a friend coming over to help cut stuff out. I think the goal for today is going to be getting as much “outer pieces” cut for coffee cozies and all the gadget cozies. We plan to have two people cutting, and I will be pinning/sewing. We will also have to occupy Little Monkey while we work!

I’m Getting There-

March 24, 2009

Yesterday I got the embroidery machine back out to test out something for a client at our Etsy shop. She had special ordered multiple coffee cozies, in neon yellow softballs (VERY HARD TO FIND!). She wanted some initials and the players number on the cozy too. The first run, with just the initials went okay. The next run adding in the number….I messed up and ended up turning the number! Whoops! Finally on the third try, we got this:

It is not perfect but I’m hoping she will be happy. We are still VERY new to the embroidery stuff but we are willing to give it a try.

We have also decided that we are going to try and do a craft show coming up in May! This means we have to have some stock to sell at the show. We have a made a list and have some lofty goals set but we will try and see what we can do. We spent part of yesterday cutting fabric and batting and pinning some items together. I even managed to start sewing some of the items together last night! It helps to have a couple items totally done and more than a handful partly done. I am hopeful that it is possible to make our goals and then sell quite a bit (or all of it!) at the show!

Did You Guess Right?

March 23, 2009

Yesterday I posted a photo for you to try and figure out what it was. There were a few guesses….some that were partially right and some that were very close.

It was a tire….but it did not have a nail in it.

Instead it had a screw in it. We will be taking the car into the shop today to hopefully get the tire fixed. Thankfully we have a road protection plan on the tires, so we should not have to pay for anything. If they are not able to patch it, then they will replace it. (At least that is what the plan says….so we’ll see what happens when we take it in.)

Do You Know What This Is?

March 22, 2009

I’m posting a photo for you to guess what is in the picture. I know the photo is blurry and it might be hard to tell….but take your best guess. (I will not be approving comments until multiple people have answered so you cannot cheat off of one another!)

Tomorrow I will tell you what it is and what it has to do with anything. :)

What do you see?
