I really wanted something to snack on the other day and had planned to make brownies but forgot. (How does one forget about brownies though…seriously!) So yesterday I decided instead to make cupcakes. A while back I had seen this recipe and saved it in my “One day we’ll make that” file. I didn’t end up making it quite the same as they did. I just used a boxed cake and made it as the box said to. Then I divided it up and added my food coloring. We had some neon colors and a few regular colors so I got them all set up. (I should have taken a picture but I was just trying to get the cupcakes made!)
I didn’t even end up putting frosting on them (and I still ate like four of them!) but they would be great with frosting! Can you imagine them being all covered in frosting and no one knowing they were crazy colored underneath until they unwrapped them and took a bite. How fun would that be?! I think I will make some fun colored cakes/cupcakes again. It took a few more minutes than making regular cupcakes but honestly the coloring of the batter and pouring different colors into the cups was worth it. I think they are so fun!

Since Little Monkette still hasn’t arrived, last night I decided to work on her room some more. Maybe she knows that it is not quite done yet and is waiting on us to get everything done!
My mom had found some fun vinyl dots that we could use for the walls. I wasn’t sure how well they would match or if I would really like them but I decided to put them up and go from there. They come off (supposedly) pretty easily if I didn’t like them.
I just put them up kind of randomly around the wall. This wall is the same wall that her door is on and is next to her changing table/dresser. At first I was thinking we might need more dots but I like it. I did mess up on one or two of the dots but you can’t tell in the picture and it still looks cute!

Some of the guys in our church have a fantasy football league. Big Monkey is a part of the league for its second year. (Last year he played and came in last and won the toilet seat award.) We are hoping for a better showing this year! One of the other wives had an idea to have a playdate with the kids and make shirts for the guys and the kids to represent their fantasy football teams. We went over to their house this past week and got to work. Everyone was excited that I was coming because they said they needed my creative help. (I tried to explain to them that I am really not that creative. Just about everything I make is something I have found online and just recreate!) The other moms used paint pens, markers and tie dye. I also did one tie dye onesie for Little Monkette. It wasn’t ready to go yet when we left, so I don’t have it back yet.
I also made Little Monkette this onesie.

Cheerleader!
It was simply an iron on that I bought and ironed on to the shirt.
I still haven’t decided if it is done as it is or not. I might add some words or her name to it with the embroidery machine or some iron on letters.
This is Little Monkey’s shirt. I made a long sleeve shirt (mainly because when I went looking for plain white shirts, long sleeve was the only thing I could find in his size). I did most of the work at home before we went to the playdate. (Printing a template, preparing the fabrics and getting it all cut out) Then at the playdate I did all the iron on work. I had to sew it when I got it back home. I had left part of the football without the fusible webbing on it so that after I sewed around the edge, I could make it fray some.

Football Applique
Here is an up close of the football, before it had been frayed at all.

Football!
Big Monkey also got a shirt. I had picked him out a red shirt and put his team name on the back with some iron on letters. Then on the front I had also printed a template to use to create the football and the burst around it. I did all the prep work at home also and then did the iron on work at playdate. Big Monkey says that he likes it…but we’ll see if he’ll wear it out of the house at all! (It reminds me of the Incredibles outfits a little bit!)

This past Monday I had to go to the dentist for my regular cleaning. After I was done, Big Monkey suggested that I go to the mall and walk around (hoping that would help to induce labor…obviously it did not). I wasn’t going to go because I was tired but decided that I would. I walked around some but only bought stuff at JCPenney’s. I generally don’t shop there too much because I don’t tend to find many good deals but this trip was different. As I was wondering through the baby section I was about to leave until I noticed a Final Clearance $1.97 sign on a rack with a TON of stuff. I could have probably easily bought like 30 things! I refrained though for a few reasons. 1. How many clothes does she REALLY need? 2. I didn’t want to spend too much money even though it was a great deal.
Thankfully I had some gift cards still from a Publix promotion a long time ago. I wasn’t sure how much was left on them, but knew that it was somewhere between $10-$20. Sure enough I had $12 on my cards. After picking out a bunch of stuff, I narrowed down my choices and ended up with nine items. I took some pictures for you (because seriously some of it is just too cute!) and listed out the prices.

The tops in 7 and 8 can both be worn with the pants in 5 and 9. Can you even believe that 1 was originally $36?!?! It is VERY cute but it is so NOT $36 cute. I can hardly believe that the shirts were regularly $15.99 and the pants $19.99. Who pays that? Certainly not me of course, but at $1.97 a piece I could hardly resist!

No Little Monkette has not arrived yet…but earlier today Big Monkey and Little Monkey went down to Tampa to pick up Roland. I had posted about Roland here last week. We did not think that he would be ready to go so soon because just on Sunday he was still in Alabama. He made the flight to Tampa on Monday and much to our surprise was ready to go today! He is about 5-6 months old, neutered and microchipped. He is very sweet and Little Monkey was in love with him after spending five minutes with him. They were playing and Little Monkey said, “Okay, we can take him home now!”

Little Monkey, Big Monkey and Roland after they got back home.
He loves to play and look out the window. He even did pretty good his first night in the crate. He cried for about five minutes and then was quiet the rest of the night. Big Monkey let him out before he left for work this morning and then Roland cried for about three minutes before settling down until Little Monkey and I got up. He doesn’t seem to be very hungry but hopefully he will learn soon that when his food is down, he better eat! Roland is also enamored with our television (although a lot of guys are). I hope to catch a picture of him watching it because it is quite funny to see him so focused on it. I think he is a guy’s dog and has appeared to be looking for Big Monkey already today. So far all is well though. I do think we are a little crazy to get a puppy and have Little Monkette arriving any day now too but hopefully it will be a smooth transition all the way around. He is a sweet puppy and loves to play but then collapses for a nap!

This is actually try number three to get this post written, saved and published!!! This is crazy!
This post is to give you medical updates on both Little Monkey and Little Monkette.
Last week we got Little Monkey’s lab results back from his most recent trip to the doctor. His phe level was 6.0 (This is on the high end of the acceptable range for our clinic.). Last time his level was 6.1. The dietitian decided to reduced Little Monkey’s daily phe intake just a bit. They figure if his phe intake is that high when he is fasting for the blood test, it is likely even higher during the day when he is eating. Hopefully this change will make a difference and bring his levels back down where they have been before. Little Monkey doesn’t have to go back in until December. (If Little Monkette also has PKU, we will be visiting them again much sooner…we will have to wait and see to find out if she does.)
Earlier today I went in for my weekly check on Little Monkette. The doctor was happy that I have made it to full term; I am 37 weeks and 2 days. I did not gain any weight this week. I did dilate a little bit more though. We are now at 3 centimeters dilated and still 70% effaced. I am measuring about a week to a week and a half behind so the doctor is sending me for an ultrasound to check her size. The doctor didn’t seem too concerned that she may be small as Little Monkey was small and I am small. She may just be slowing her growth because she is running out of room. The doctor still wants to get a look at her though just to make sure that she is on track, but just small. I will be going on Friday for the ultrasound, so hopefully we will know her approximate size then. The doctor said that she expects to see Little Monkette within the week! OH MY! Time to get ready…
Well I think we are mostly ready already but I do need to pack my hospital bag and probably a bag for Little Monkey. I also need to wrap Little Monkey’s gift from Little Monkette that he will get from her when he comes to meet her. Today Little Monkette’s car seat arrived; I think that is the last item we actually HAD to have to get her home from the hospital!
