The Cracked Pot

October 12, 2010

(I received this a few weeks ago and really liked the story. I did not write it myself and have no idea if it is true or just a nice story with a great lesson. Just read it. And yes, I do understand it cannot fully be true in the sense that the pot cannot talk to the lady.)  :)

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried across her neck.  One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was  perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.  At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.

Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.  But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream.

‘I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house.’

The old woman smiled, ‘Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot’s side?  That’s because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk
back, you water them.  For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers
to decorate the table.  Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.’

Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it’s the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding.  You’ve just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.

Coming Soon-

February 18, 2010

A VERY BIG Announcement! (Well it is a big deal to me.) :) You can act surprised and celebrate with us too!

Feel free to guess what you think it is. I’m hoping to be able to tell you in the next few days. I’d love to know what you think it is. (Oh course if you are one of the few people who already do know…well then you can still guess but I won’t publish your guess if I know you know and you guess the right think.)  :)

Undercover Boss

February 11, 2010

Waste Management Episode

After seeing the previews for this show, I was excited to finally get to watch it after the Superbowl. Overall, I would say that Undercover Boss is a decent show. I would watch it again too. I know every company cannot do something like this because they might be too small to pull off the “undercover” part. I do think that it could be a very valuable experience for many upper management employees. Too many times, the “bosses” are out of touch with the lowly line workers.

I think that Larry O’Donnell, CEO of Waste Management, really did learn some things about his company that he didn’t realize. I do have to wonder a little bit about all those other employees that he didn’t actually meet. I am sure there are plenty of other hard-working folks in his company that he is not able to help out with a raise or promotion because he doesn’t know about their situation.

Today I ran across an article about the show that gave a different perspective that I hadn’t even thought about. It was saying that maybe the show is a bit too exploitative of the regular workers who appear on the show. They are not compensated for their appearance. I didn’t think about this as being an issue because they are doing their job, which they are getting paid for. It just so happens that they are being filmed for a show (which they do know, it is just under a false pretense). I’m sure when they were approached to be filmed for the “show” they had the choice to not do it. Should they really get more money to have their job be filmed? I am not sure how I really feel about all that.

I look forward to checking out more episodes and see how things go.
Here is the current expected lineup:

2/14- Hooters
2/21 7-Eleven

Superbowl Commercials

February 8, 2010

I have to say that overall I was a bit disappointed with the Superbowl commercials. There were a couple that I did like but most of them were not SO great that I would be telling all my friends about them later. I will show you the few that I did like.

Hyundai-Brett Favre Commercial

As much as I think Brett should have just stayed retired, he has been playing pretty decent (except of course for throwing an interception as his last play in the playoff game). I’m glad that he can make fun of himself for his flip flop decision.

Doritos–Dog shock collar commercial

I have to say that I was laughing quite a bit after this one. Such a smart dog. The other doritos commercial, with the little boy talking to his mom’s date was pretty good too.

Focus on the Family-Tim Tebow’s Mom

What was the hype over this? I love how people managed to make a HUGE deal over something that they had never seen yet. The commercial was simple and just pointing you to go to the website. I’m glad that it has aired and now we can move on and not have people being so crazy about it.

Thank You for Your Service

November 11, 2009

Today is Veteran’s Day. If you know someone who is or was in the armed forces, you should thank them today.

Freedom is not free. Just ask the families and friends of people who have lost their lives, arms, legs, etc. Thank a Veteran today.

Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2009

We will not be doing anything Halloweeny this year (unless you count camping as Halloweeny). Enjoy your Halloween and be safe! Save some of your chocolate candy for me!

Oh Seriously Brett

August 19, 2009

I guess the first time he retired and then came back to the game he didn’t learn much. I don’t think he was too smart to retire, come back, get traded to the Jets and play the season. I mean really. He’s accomplished a lot and should have just gone out while he was still doing well.

Now he’s decided to retire and oh yes come back and play for the Vikings…oh geez. It’s going to be an interesting year yet again. Too much drama if you ask me. Make up your mind, either play, or agree with most of us that you did well and are getting old for the game and retire!

Today Is The Memorial

July 7, 2009

Today is the public memorial to remember Michael Jackson.

I do not plan to watch it on tv nor do I plan to have a complete MJ Playlist added to my iPod. While I understand that he did have quite an impact on the music world, he also apparently had a questionable side. I am sure many people will miss him and miss what he could have done with his music in the future.

That is all I have to say about that. :)

Did You Guess Right?

March 23, 2009

Yesterday I posted a photo for you to try and figure out what it was. There were a few guesses….some that were partially right and some that were very close.

It was a tire….but it did not have a nail in it.

Instead it had a screw in it. We will be taking the car into the shop today to hopefully get the tire fixed. Thankfully we have a road protection plan on the tires, so we should not have to pay for anything. If they are not able to patch it, then they will replace it. (At least that is what the plan says….so we’ll see what happens when we take it in.)

Do You Know What This Is?

March 22, 2009

I’m posting a photo for you to guess what is in the picture. I know the photo is blurry and it might be hard to tell….but take your best guess. (I will not be approving comments until multiple people have answered so you cannot cheat off of one another!)

Tomorrow I will tell you what it is and what it has to do with anything. :)

What do you see?

What do you see?
