So…every once in a while, Big Monkey comes up with some great idea. The problem is that usually his great idea ends up costing more than he plans or turns out to be not such a great idea. So I don’t always let him follow through with all his great ideas. This week was different.
Big Monkey had some spare time at work the other day, so he started looking at new cell phone plans through Sprint. We are under contract with Sprint/Nextel until November 2009, so the only thing we can do would be to change our plans. The plan he found gave us more minutes, free nights and weekends, unlimited text/picture messaging and free mobile to mobile. I told him we could look into it to see if it really was a better deal. I didn’t want to extend our contract, or pay more monthly.
I looked over the plans and Big Monkey called customer service and told them that he wanted to get rid of Nextel (because it’s becoming annoying to him and the coverage is often questionable out here). He told them that he did not want to extend his contract or pay money to change plans or pay money to activate new phones or pay big money for new phones. Amazingly they agreed. I honestly have no idea how he pulled that off.
So we got new phones (at the new contract price without a contract), don’t have to pay to change our plan, don’t have to pay to activate our phones, don’t have to extend our contract; we only have to pay for the phones and $12 to ship them to us. Done deal. We’ve got our new phones and everyone is happy. So for those folks who didn’t text me before (because I didn’t have text…and then only had limited text) you can feel free to text me!
So Big Monkey’s great idea actually worked out well this time. 🙂
Here is what my new phone looks like. Big Monkey’s is the same except in blue and black.
